BE is a free and open source audio and video player for Windows. Media Player Classic - BE is based on the original "Media Player Classic" project and "Media Player Classic Home Cinema" project, contains additional features and bug fixes. The BE mod (Black Edition Mod) is a skinned version of Media Player Classic Home Cinema, much better looking than the plain old MPC. MPC-BE Mod is usually newer because they use the latest SVN the most up-to-date version of the code.

SMPlayer 17.9 gives the possibility to change the search method for finding subtitles on opensubtitles.org. SMPlayer has always used in the past the “hash” method, now it’s possible to search by filename.

This is an explanation of both methods:

Hash: SMPlayer calculates a hash key from the video file and uses that hash, along with the file size, to search on opensubtitles. This is the most accurate method because it will return subtitles for your video, even if you rename the video file. On the other hand opensubtitles must have the hash in its database in order this method to work.
Filename: SMPlayer will search for subtitles just using the filename. This may return more results than the previous method but some of the subtitles may not be suitable for your video.

SmoothVideo Project (SVP) allows you to watch any video on your PC file with frame interpolation (like you can watch it on high-end TVs and projectors). It increases frame rate by generating intermediate animation frames between existing ones to produce very smooth, fluid and clear motion. The technology is well-known for a while ("TrimensionDNM", "Motion Plus", "Motionflow" and others), but now it's available for free to PC users with simple GUI and just a couple of mouse clicks.

Since version 3.0 SVP provides GPU acceleration and now it's possible to watch FullHD 1080p-video recalculated to 60Hz in real-time on any modern GPU hardware. Here is the speed comparsion (*) between CPU-only mode and GPU accelerated:

SVP actually is not a video player itself, but it enables almost any player to play smooth video.

Zoom Player is a robust media and DVD front-end player. It was designed to be simple at first glance while being remarkably dynamic and flexible when used to its full potential.
