in actual fact, i remember also having some issues while back with ati cards which might also be due to HW acceleration, so i wonder about that. You don't mention which codec (same with ALTDVB? often odd exceptions r codec related due to graph/codec instabilities. cl, ms-dtv seem more stable for me)?
Btw, removal of current need for admin rights is on my todo list (optional perhaps).

video codec is Microsoft's DTV-DVD Video Decoder (msmpeg2vdec.dll). It's the same for Altdvb but as I said before Altdvb does not use EVR and the VMR9 doesn't allow one to use hardware-acceleration.

it's not too much work  ;). 'icacls *directory*  /grant *S-1-5-32-545:(CI)(OI)(F)' does the job of downgrading the directory for the settings.

tx, though setup and directory processing also need being updated (right now current dir is used, not much work still i hope, honestly i also liked the simplicity of all at same directory for portability, like just copy to usb stick etc(which almost works besides the filters .ax registering)..
i should have said did you try lav, it's free and quite a reasonable codec i would like to know how that works with 0.2.5 for others. And also does anyone here know channels which switch aspect ratio frequently?

does anyone here know channels which switch aspect ratio frequently?
For example, tagesschau24 sometimes does, during evening and night time.
Astra 19,2°E, 10743H22000
Occasionally they are transmitting old material, like "Tagesschau vor 20 Jahren", in original 4:3
There is a 7 days EPG, so you would not have to watch and wait for such an occasion.
There are several other German ARD / ZDF special channels acting the same way, but normally only on the SD versions. Their HD versions (if existing) would use a vertical letterbox instead, keeping the transmission mode as 16:9 permanently. Same goes for arte.

BTW, I did not interfere with the recent BBC HD crash issue, as I am having issues with the 28.2°E LNB these days.
Signal is very low now, still strong enough for my STB, but to weak für the Cinergy.
A new LNB is on it's way already, and I will then exchange it a.s.a.p.

p.s.
The new LNB for 28.2°E arrived and was attached at once, of course.
L & Q are excellent now, better than ever.

So I have been testing on BBC HD for hours now, with no crashes, stuttering or any other issues at all.
Played around with minimizing, EPG, TXT, recording as usual.

Yet, sometimes SmartDVB would not start directly to that third DiSEqC position properly, but I like to put the blame on the extremely cheap 8/1 DiSEqC 1.1 switch (mainly).
One possible cause may also be found in my multiswitch system, as this results in extremely low DC load on the tuner and by this in a pretty long time needed for LNB voltage to change downwards.
And once the tuner is switches off, the LNB supply still provides more than 1 V DC.
Once I find the time, I will try to find out more on this.
Perhaps I might want to add an extra load by a 12 V Zener and a 120 Ohms resistor, resulting in around 50 mA extra consumption at Horizontal.

Rendering via my ATI Radeon HD 6670 works perfect and efficient, using MS DTV-DVD codecs and EVR.
Provides me with full HW support for both, h.264 and MPEG2.
CPU load around 4% at FullHD, all four cores stay cool at 800 MHz.

tx, i'll see if i'm able to do some tests with tageschau24 concerning ratio (like u mention try to make some record dumps etc). Although i have to mention, for months now my usb sat devices don't work on my development system (win7 32, prof 7500 main device, coz it's most stable for debug for me). I thought the prof might have been broken, but tested it on another system (old p5bdeluxe) and the prof works perfect there so it's not a device or setup issue. The stream almost immediatley get's stopped and i just get no data, but have signal (so almost not usable for development). I could try to install a new setup system on that pc (vaio laptop i5), but that's lots of work. Finally spend some real time on this, removed/reinstalled drivers, cleaned up the system (i had crazycat bs drv installed which uses test mode) etc etc, and it's on multiple devices and also other programs (if i run dvbdream same issue). So it must be an OS issue or maybe even a broken usb port or whatever (although other devices just work so would be odd too) dunno.

I have an ati (old 5570 if i remember correct) also on that old p5bdeluxe (which is core 2 duo but still runs all hd fine with that ati). Some years ago they were pound for pound better video cards, i'm looking at some new hardware and you don't see them around much with laptops it looks like (only amd cores which are too slow for my development liking), are they still the first choice concerning video quality (i read the intel hd 4000 which r not bad either but have some flaws? Have to read some more i guess i have some catching up to do after this freak summer i had here with this racist bunch)..

That's why I don't like notebooks, you can't do to many changes on the hardware.

Graphics are a pretty complex item, specially as most notebooks don't have dedicated RAM there for, and mobile GPUs often come with even more limitations.

And regarding hardware decoding support for h.264 and MPEG2, a cheap Radeon HD 6450 512MB DDR3 does the job perfectly on a desktop machine.
UVD 3.0 with MS DTV/DVD codecs, that's the point.
Just tested this a couple of days ago with a lame Sempron 140 (single core without L3 cache, 2700 MHz, 533 MHz FSB), no problems with FullHD even then. Applications are slow, decoding is not.

For me as a technician, a computer has to be a flexible modular system, so a tower or desktop system is a must here.
Most hardware changes can be done within minutes.
Just a new mainboard normally would require some more time, due to reinstalling of XP, 7 and perhaps a Linux or two. Preferring portable applications on an extra data partition, of course.
Though, had to downgrade from an AMD 990X chipset to an 870 recently, and both XP and 7 did survive, just had to be activated again after all the driver changes. Thanks to ATI catalyst driver system ;)

Try this on a notebook - oh no, better don't try...

i know, this notebook is my first (that p5b i mention was the last tower i had, overclocked etc). I have to agree, i had all kinds of problems and you're just stuck then. I do like the portable aspect of it though (you can duck and hide better, i'm now in this tiny room at my building where they're less able to bother me with yells and other stuff, they still try though lol), i don't think i'll buy sony anymore (bought it at advice from someone i thought knew this stuff, bit on a whim i must say bad decision, i'll trust my own judgment from now on:).
i'm working on this again (in spite of aforementioned things still going on with this racist lot, i'm sure they feel very good about themselves lol), if you or anyone here is in the mood for testing  (not even alpha now so lotsa bugs) just let me know (i cannot test much myself atm like mentioned)..

Of course I would be glad, to carry on testing your fine products.
Even an extra machine is available ATM, for what might be to risky to test on the primary system.

And for sure I am not alone here ;)
