Mixxx versorgt geneigte Party-DJs mit den notwendigen MP3-Plattentellern. Das bedeutet Musik hören, in der Geschwindigkeit beeinflussen, mischen und mit Effekten belegen.

Die Programmoberfläche erklärt sich von selbst: Eine Musikdatenbank nebst Playlist-Verwaltung dient zur Bändigung der Musiksammlung und zwei Plattenspieler - na gut, MP3-Player - spielen die Songs. Die Geschwindigkeit der Stücke wird in BPM angezeigt und auf Wunsch per Knopfdruck synchronisiert. Pro Kanal stehen neben Pitch-Regler und Cue-Point zum Anspielen des Songs ab einer bestimmten Stelle eine Lautstärkeregelung, Equalizer und ein Flanger-Effekt zur Verfügung.

Wer den eigenen Mixxx gern für die Nachwelt festhalten möchte, kann dazu auf den eingebauten Recorder zurückgreifen, der die Musikmischung als WAV auf der Festplatte speichert. Vorhandene CD-Mixer können übrigens zum Ansteuern und Scratchen der Songs genutzt werden, und auch MIDI-Controller werden unterstützt. Davon abgesehen ist der Funktionsumfang in Mixxx recht rudimentär.

Eben wegen dieser wenigen Funktionen ist Mixxx gut geeignet, um einen ersten Vorgeschmack auf das digitale DJing zu erhalten. Ohne verwirrende Knöpfchen kann man sich erstmal in Ruhe orientieren und gegebenenfalls dann später auf eine professionelle DJ-Software ausweichen.

The release provides a bunch of delicious features, namely:

The 0.9.6 version also marks the end of the 0.9.x series. We have planned great improvements for Giada 0.10.x, such as the MIDI lightning support, MIDI input to channels/VSTs, a big source code refactoring and a starting setup for TDD development.

The UI resembles a classic DJ setup with a mixer and two turntables but can be expanded to 4 decks or more.
