Die kostenfreie Version bietet allen Heimanwendern die Möglichkeit, die Funktionen von avast! im privaten Bereich zu nutzen.
In der aktuellen Version 4.8ist "avast!" kompatibel zu allen Windows-Versionen ab Win95, inklusive der 64bit-Edition.

Ich habe letztens Avast auf einem betagteren WinME-Rechner installiert, nachdem es scheinbar das letzte AV-Tool ist, welches noch unter ME funktioniert.

Trotz weit besserer Hardware denn genannter Mindestvoraussetzung lief Avast nicht besonders performant...

...aber allemal besser als ohne AV!

Die Sicherheitssoftware AVG Internet Security ist ab sofort in der Version 9.0 verfügbar. Sie verfügt über einen optimierten Virenscanner sowie eine verbesserte Firewall. Insgesamt soll die Software schneller arbeiten und weniger Ressourcen verbrauchen.

In AVG Internet Security 9.0 kommt ein kombinierter Virus- und Spyware-Scanner zum Einsatz, der bis zu 50 Prozent schneller arbeiten soll als die Vorversion. Er kennzeichnet beim ersten Scandurchlauf alle Dateien als sicher oder unsicher. Sämtliche sicheren Dateien werden solange nicht mehr gescannt, bis sich die Dateiablagestruktur ändert. Dadurch verkürzen sich die Scanzeiten verspricht der Hersteller. Zudem soll sich dadurch die Bootdauer verkürzen und der Speicherbedarf sinken.

Die integrierte Firewall wurde von Grund auf neu entwickelt und soll deutlich unauffälliger arbeiten, so dass Nachfragen den Nutzer seltener erreichen. Die zugrundeliegende Datenbank unterscheidet zwischen sicheren und unsicheren Dateien, ob die Kommunikation freigegeben oder blockiert werden soll. Mit diesem Schritt wurde die Zahl der Dialogfenster mit Nachfragen um bis zu 50 Prozent reduziert.

Die Funktionen Resident Shield und Identitätsschutz wurden in die Firewall integriert und tauschen Malware-Informationen untereinander aus. Dadurch soll ein Diebstahl von Anmeldedaten vermieden werden. Außerdem werden Malware und Rootkits erkannt und entfernt, für die noch keine Signaturen vorliegen. Die neue Version bringt außerdem einen verbesserten Phishing-Schutz, der entsprechende Webseiten besser erkennen soll.

Der Installationsprozess wurde optimiert und soll Sicherheitsanwendungen anderer Anbieter erkennen und entfernen können, um Problemen vorzubeugen.

Die AVG Internet Security 9.0 für die Windows-Plattform ist ab sofort verfügbar und kostet als Jahreslizenz 39 Euro und als Zweijahreslizenz 58 Euro. Das kostenlose AVG Free 9.0 soll Mitte Oktober 2009 erscheinen.

AVG Technologies hat wie angekündigt die kostenlose Version AVG Free 9.0 für Privatanwender zum Download bereit gestellt. Im Vergleich zum kostenpflichtigen Anti-Virus Pro 9.0 respektive Internet Security 9.0 fehlen ihr die Verhaltenserkennung, ein spezieller Spielemodus, der erweiterte Anti-Rootkit-Schutz sowie der Surfschutz Web Shield. Die kürzlich freigegebene Version Internet Security 9.0 erreichte beim Schutz nach Messungen von AV-Test.org respektable Ergebnisse.

Mit der signaturbasierten Erkennung bekannter Viren, Würmer und Trojaner fand der Scanner unter Windows XP 97,64 Prozent der Schädlinge. Bei Ad- und Spyware warnte das Tool in 94 Prozent der Fälle. Es produzierte bei einem Scan über 600.000 sauberen Dateien keinen einzigen Fehlalarm. Die Desinfektion von infizierten PCs verlief in 24 von 25 Fällen erfolgreich, jedoch beseitigte der Scanner in vielen Fällen nicht alle Spuren – beispielsweise verblieb eine hosts-Datei in einem manipulierten Zustand.

Today is the big day—the day we (and many of you) have been waiting for—we are starting the release of the Version 5.0 products today. This is a pretty complicated roll-out so we are staging it. Today we will be releasing the new products (and the new website) in English and French. Over the next 10 days or so, we will be releasing the products and website in 12 additional languages (German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Czech, Russian, Polish, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese). Other languages will then be added as we have them available.

Three products (Free Antivirus, Pro Antivirus, and Internet Security) and a new website are being released today. Even though we have expanded our product portfolio, our philosophy of having and promoting a top-notch free antivirus is paramount. This philosophy has enabled us to achieve 100 million users and we are continuing it. As you read through our new website and launch information, you will see that not only is the new free product easier to use and more visually appealing than the old product, it provides even more security protection. And it is still free and free from annoying pop-ups and requests for money.

These products are not minor updates from the existing products. They are all new. Some of the changes—such as the new user interface—are obvious. Some are not obvious at all (such as the new scanning engine). All-in-all we think they are a vast improvement from the current products—modern, light, fast, and very effective. Avast! Free Antivirus. This is our new flagship product and replaces Avast Home Edition (we changed the name to emphasize the product is free). We focus this product on users that use the internet for web browsing and email. If that is what you do on the internet, this is the product you need. We are very proud of this product and we stack it up against anyone else’s paid antivirus—in fact, we have recently started submitting this product in lieu of our paid products to all of the industry standard tests. Virus Bulletin, one of the most respected journals, recently called this product “….nothing short of a miracle” (see separate blog post).
