RasterVect hilft vor allem CAD-Anwendern beim Umsetzen gerasterter Vorlagen in Vektorgrafiken. Als Datenquelle dienen der Freeware sowohl auf der Festplatte gespeicherte Bilder als auch papierene und per Scanner eingelesene Grafiken.

Im Unterschied zu den meisten Vertretern seines Genres wandelt RasterVect Rasterbilder nicht einfach nur in Linienansammlungen um, sondern optimiert diese für den CAD-Einsatz. Dies zeigt sich unter anderem darin, dass bestimmte gestalterische Elemente direkt als Block-Einheiten vektorisiert werden. Gesetzt den Fall, dass die Vektorisierung nicht ganz optimal vonstatten geht, arbeitet man die Vektor-Grafiken manuell nach.

An Ausgabeformaten bietet RasterVect vor allem den CAD-Standard DXF an. Alternativ gibt der Helfer die Vektoren aber auch als WMF, EMF, EPS sowie dem Adobe Illustrator Format AI aus.
