DriveImage XML allows you to backup any logical drive or partition to an image file, even if the drive or partition is currently in use. You can browse an image file, view/extract files from it, or restore the image to the same or different drive. It also has a function to help you clone one hard disk to another.

Mit Duplicati kann man schnell und einfach ein Backup seiner "Eigenen Dateien" bzw. natürlich auch für jeden anderen Ordner anlegen. Die Backups werden bei Bedarf verschlüsselt, wobei ein Passwort automatisch erstellt werden kann. Gespeichert werden die Backups auf externe Laufwerke, im Netzwerk, per FTP oder WEBDAV. Auch das Amazon S 3 storage wird unterstützt.

Folder Sync is a backup program that can performs comparisons between two directories and then reports new, updated, renamed, moved and deleted files. The program can performs synchronization, as well as full or differential (only items that have changed) from the source to the destination path.

One Way Mirror will mirror all Files and Directories in the Source Directory into those same-named Files and Directories in the Destination Directory. Only newer files will be copied, and no files or directories will be deleted in the Destination Directory.

Script files are also supported. These can be used to maintain a list of Source and Destination directories, and the options for sopy files from the Source to the Destination.

The drop-down lists used on One Way Mirror's interface will be maintained between application starts. In this way, a list of directories, and Script files, can be easily remembered, and re-used.

Ziellaufwerk auswählen, anschl. die zu sichernden Dateien/Ordner wählen - fertig. Ab sofort werden die Änderungen in Echtzeit gesichert. Mittels des integrierten Timeline-Explorers kann man auf ältere Versionen der Dateien zurückgreifen.

Auch wenn Microsofts Windows 8 noch gar nicht offiziell erschienen ist, gibt es den populären Passwort-Speicherdienst LastPass bereits im Windows 8 App Store zum kostenlosen Download. Für die Nutzung der App auf mobilen Geräten wird ein kostenpflichtiger Premium Account benötigt. Für Desktop-Rechner ist auch eine kostenfreie Nutzung möglich.

Die App ist natürlich auch im Mondern UI-Style (ehemalig Metro Design) gehalten. Die Entwickler des Passwort-Speicherdienstes rufen auch noch einmal ganz explizit im eigenem Blog auf, dass dieser Release natürlich die erste Version von LastPass für Windows 8 ist.
