Francois Dupoux hat die sofortige Verfügbarkeit des Linux-Betriebssystems SystemRescueCd 1.3.0 angekündigt. Das System ist mit dem Ziel entwickelt, eine Hilfe nach dem Crash zu sein.
Die SystemRescueCd ist vor allen Dingen für Rettungs-Szenarien entwickelt. Das Linux-Betriebssystem basiert auf Gentoo und bringt keine neuen Optionen mit sich. Allerdings wurden einige Software-Pakete auf einen neuen Stand gebracht. FSArchiver 0.5.9 bringt bessere Unterstützung für NTFS-Dateisysteme. Der Standard-Kernel hat ein Update auf Variante 2.6.31 erfahren. Ebenso mit an Bord sind NTFS-3G 2009.4.4 AR17, Xfce 4.6.1, Python 2.6.2 und Mozilla Firefox 3.5.2.

Frühere Versionen der SystemRescueCD konnten zwar auch über das Netzwerk booten, aber dazu musste das komplette Image, immerhin 400 MB, in den Ram des betroffenen Rechners kopiert werden. Das dauerte zum einen lange, zum anderen war die Distribution aur Rechnern mit wenig Hauptspeicher nicht nutzbar. Mit SystemRescueCD gehören diese Einschränkungen der Vergangenheit an, denn das System kann via NFS oder NBD gemountet werden und und es müssen anstatt des kompletten Images nur noch die aktuell benötigten Daten übertragen werden. Eine dritte Bootoption, »isoloop«, erlaubt in Kombination mit grub2 das Booten eines ISO-Images.
SystemRescueCD 1.4 basiert auf einem Kernel 2.6.32.9 und enthält zusätzlich einen älteren Kernel 2.6.27.45. Die Rettungsdistribution wird mit einem Firefox 3.6 ausgeliefert und wurde um das Dateisystem zfs-fuse-0.6.0 ergänzt. SystemRescueCD baut auf Gentoo Linux auf. Neben der Kommandozeile können Anwender dank XFCE 4.6.1 auch innerhalb einer grafischen Desktopumgebung arbeiten. Zu den unterstützten Dateisystemen zählen ext[234], reiserfs, reiser4, btrfs, xfs, jfs, vfat, ntfs, iso9660 und darüber hinaus auch noch nfs sowie Samba.

System-Rescue-Cd ist eine auf Gentoo basierende Live-CD mit zahlreichen Tools für die Datenrettung. Die aktuelle Version unterstützt auch die neueste Festplatten-Generation.
Das rund 250 MByte große ISO-Abbild der System-Rescue-CD unterstützt 32- und 64-Bit-Systeme. Dank einem Update auf den stabilen Kernel 2.6.32.10 und dem Paket util-linux in Version 2.17.1 unterstützt die neueste Rettungs-CD auch Festplatten mit einer physikalischen Sektorgröße von 4k. Immer mehr Hersteller bringen inzwischen solche Festplatten auf den Markt, da die größeren Kapazitäten mit den traditionellen 512-Byte-Blöcken nicht mehr zu realisieren sind.
Daneben haben die Entwickler auch das Partitionierungstool Parted auf Version 2.2. aktualisiert und den NTFS-Support mit Version 2010.3.6 von ntfs-3g verbessert.
