Es fragt sich nur, ob die klassische Festplatte überhaupt noch so lange am Markt sein wird, in Anbetracht der Entwicklung der SSDs.

Sicherlich ist die Festplatte immer noch weit günstiger, den Preis pro GB betreffend, aber erstens wird sich das sicher allmählich ändern, zweitens ist auch die verfügbare Gesamtgröße der SSDs tendenziell steigend.
Und zumindest der typische private Nutzer darf sich ohnehin fragen, wieviel TB er wirklich im Gerät braucht.
Auch der Marktanteil von 3- und 4-GB-Platten sind ja noch gering, und manch ein Zeitgenosse gibt sich doch auch heute noch mit z.B. 500 GB zufrieden, im Billig-PC oder im Notebook.
Andere investieren ein Vermögen in ein 500er SSD, und sie werden vermutlich eher schon eine Art Datensparsamkeit gelernt haben, bevor eines Tages für noch mehr Geld die ersten 1000er auftauchen.

So erwarte ich, dass die großen Festplatten, ebenso wie ausgewachsene PCs, bald eher eine Art Nischendasein fristen werden.

Anderes wird sicher für Profi-Anwender gelten, die ja nie genug Speicherplatz im RAID haben können, und denen auch Stromverbrauch und Laufgeräusch oft eher wenig bedeutsam erscheinen. 
Nur sind da die zu erwartenden Stückzahlen nicht wirklich gewaltig, was die Motivation der Platten-Hersteller nur über heftig hohe Preise aufrecht erhalten könnte.

Allerdings könnte die Sammelwut der gewerblichen wie behördlichen Datenkraken genau diesen rasanten großen Dingern noch eine ganze Weile ein gewisses Wachstum garantieren.

Dagegen sind wir paar Hobby-Filmesammler ja wirklich harmlos, und sicher nicht Markt-relevant...

Crucials M500-SSD-Serie ist nun offiziell über den eigenen Vertrieb verfügbar. Interessant ist vor allem das größte Modell mit fast 1 Terabyte Kapazität: 960 GByte fasst das Modell CT960M500SSD1 und gehört damit zu den größten Endkunden-SSDs im 2,5-Zoll-Format auf dem Markt. Daneben gibt es noch die Größen 480, 240 und 120 GByte. Am 960-GByte-Modell ist vor allem der Preis interessant. Er liegt offiziell bei 564 Euro. Andere SSDs mit dieser Kapazität sind häufig sehr viel teurer.

Seagate steigt nun richtig in den Markt für Flash-Storage ein und stellt SSDs für unterschiedliche Einsatzzwecke vor. Erstmals bietet Seagate auch eine SSD für Endkunden an, die Seagate 600 SSD. Die SSD im 2,5-Zoll-Format wird in den Bauhöhen von 5 und 7 mm angeboten, so dass sie in viele Notebooks passt. Sie bietet bis zu 480 GByte Speicherplatz und soll Daten mit 450 MByte/s schreiben und mit 550 MByte/s lesen. Der Anschluss erfolgt per SATA mit 6 GBit/s.
