With SFTP Net Drive you can work with the remote file system as if it were a local disk drive, given that the remote system supports SFTP protocol. SFTP protocol provides an encrypted channel for file upload and download and also for remote file and directory operations (such as create and delete directories, move and rename files etc).

Bei Cyberduck handelt es sich um eine kostenlose Software, mit der sich Verbindungen zu einem Server herstellen lassen. Dabei werden die Protokolle FTP, WebDAV und SSH Secure File Transfer (SFTP) unterstützt.

Im Vergleich zu Konkurrenzprodukten, beispielsweise das quelloffene FileZilla, macht Cyberduck optisch einen bunteren Eindruck. Es sind alle wichtigen Funktionen enthalten, beispielsweise eine Lesezeichenverwaltung, Upload und Download mittels Drag & Drop sowie die Möglichkeit, eine Web-URL zu einer Datei auf einem bestimmten Ordner zu generieren.

FTP Rush kümmert sich um Up- und Downloads mit Hilfe des gleichnamigen Transferprotokolls. Die Freeware beherrscht auch dessen verschlüsselte Varianten sowie - eine Seltenheit unter kostenlosen FTP-Clients - FXP-Dateiübertragungen.

Bei dieser Variante werden Daten von einem Server direkt zum anderen übermittelt, ohne dass der Umweg über den lokalen Rechner nötig wäre. Wer viel mit FTP-Transfers zu tun hat, dürfte großen Gefallen an dieser Funktion finden. Ebenfalls als nützlich erweisen sich automatisierte Datenverschiebungen, die per selbstgeschriebenen Skripten angestoßen werden können.

Natürlich bringt FTP Rush Standards wie Drag&Drop-Funktionalität oder die Komprimierung der Daten On-the-Fly mit. Auch eine Warteschlange mit Sortierfunktion für Up- oder Downloads mit Priorität darf in diesem alles in allem durchaus empfehlenswerten FTP-Client nicht fehlen.

Die Freeware FTP-Watchdog überwacht vorher ausgewählte lokale Verzeichnisse auf Änderungen. Sollten Dateien geändert worden sein, werden diese automatisch zum Server hochgeladen. Ob es nun Änderungen an einer HTML-Seite sind, oder einfach nur der Upload von Bildern, man muss sich um den Upload nicht mehr kümmern.

In der jetzigen Version legt FTP-Watchdog noch keine Verzeichnisse auf einem FTP-Server an. Man muss also die Verzeichnisstruktur vorher selber auf dem Server anlegen.
