The Guide Portable 2.0 has been released. The Guide is a two-pane extrinsic outliner, similar to mindmapping in some ways, designed to help you organize information hierarchically.

The Guide evolved from the need to have an application that could organize information and ideas in a hierarchical, tree-like structure. Tree-based structures are frequently employed to manage information through a "divide-and-conquer" approach, wherein each level of the tree represents a further level of specialization of the parent-level topic — the best example of this being a book. The Guide is an application that allows you create documents ("guides") which inherently have a tree (which you can modify as you please) and text associated with each node of the tree. The text itself is of the rich-text variety, and the editor allows you to modify the style and formatting of the text (fonts, bold, italics etc).

Audio-CD-Ripper, der mit umfangreichen Methoden prüft, ob Audiodaten korrekt gelesen wurden; enthält zudem einen WAV-Editor, der nicht nur Audio-Dateien beschneiden kann, sondern unter anderem auch Hintergrundrauschen aus eigenen Aufnahmen entfernen kann.

Exact Audio Copy ist ein Spezialist für bitgenaue Kopien von Audio-CDs. Das Programm wertet entweder die C2-Fehlererkennung der Laufwerke aus oder liest jeden Frame mehrmals ein. Am Ende des Kopiervorgangs teilt EAC mit, wie exakt die Daten eingelesen wurden. Auf Wunsch wandelt EAC die Musik in Ogg-Vorbis- oder MP3-Dateien (zusätzlicher LAME-MP3-Encoder nötig). Für verlustfreie Kodierung arbeitet es wahlweise mit Monkey’s Audio oder FLAC (über Flacattack) zusammen.

Finally here is the new version 1.0 beta 1 which has some mighty new features. I took some time (mainly the complete change to unicode character set), but alls well that ends well…

+ Better Windows 7 support (like progress display in taskbar icon, storage of user data in the correct folders, etc.)
+ Free selection of first track track number (including option to continue numbering from the last inserted CD)
+ Option to always write the log file in english language
+ Option for writing a checksum over the extraction log data to the log file
+ Average extraction speed is listed in the log file
+ Possibility to write only V2 tags (and no V1 tags)

Nach wie vor ist das Auffälligste an Windows 7 das moderne Aero-Design: Mit der Freeware AquaSnap holen Sie sich die neuen Aero-Funktionen auch für Windows XP und Vista. Darüber hinaus können Sie die Einstellungen von Windows Aero nach Belieben anpassen - und zwar auch für Windows 7. Nach der Installation nistet sich AquaSnap dazu im Systemtray unten rechts ein. Mit einem Rechtsklick auf das Programmsymbol können Sie dann über »Settings« die Darstellungs-Optionen für AquaSnap, AquaShake oder AquaGlass ändern.

Alles Lästige abschütteln: Klicken Sie mit der linken Maustaste in die Titelleiste des Fensters, welches Sie geöffnet lassen möchten und ziehen Sie dieses mit der Maus auf dem Desktop schnell hin und her. Je nach Einstellung im Reiter "AquaShake" schließen sich nun alle weiteren geöffneten Fenster automatisch und nur das oberste bleibt geöffnet.

Mehrere Fenster auf einem Bildschirm: Mit AeroSnap können Sie Fenster mit einem Klick auf dessen Titelleiste an den Rand Ihres Bildschirm katapultieren. Durch die Bewegung wird die Aero-Funktion aktiviert und vergrößert das Fenster automatisch - je nach Einstellung im Reiter "AquaSnap" finden so bis zu acht Fenster Platz auf Ihrem Desktop.

Alle Fenster sind durchsichtig: Mit AquaGlass haben Sie außerdem die Möglichkeit, alle Fenster transparent erscheinen zu lassen, sobald Sie sie über den Desktop bewegen.

Portable VirtualBox simuliert einen ganzen Computer. Die kostenlose Software emuliert alle für einen funktionsfähigen Computer benötigten Hardware-Komponenten. Auf so genannten virtuellen Maschinen testet man ohne Gefahr für das eigene Windows neue Betriebssysteme oder Anwendungen.

Portable VirtualBox baut dem Benutzer in wenigen Schritten einen virtuellen Computer zusammen. Ein Assistent stattet den Software-Computer mit Arbeitsspeicher, Festplattenplatz und den gewünschten Hardware-Komponenten aus. Danach installiert man wie gewohnt das Betriebssystem. Innerhalb von Portable VirtualBox testet und arbeitet der Benutzer, ohne das eigentliche System anzutasten. Auf Wunsch legt die Software sogar ganze Sammlungen von virtuellen Betriebssystemen an. Der besondere Clou der virtuellen Maschinen: Ein Knopfdruck macht entstandene Konfigurationen oder Tests jederzeit rückgängig. Die hier angebotene Version funktioniert ohne Installation.
