Ein Woche nach der Veröffentlichung der Sicherheits-Updates für seinen Firefox-Browser hat die Mozilla Foundation nun auch Thunderbird aktualisiert. In Version 3.0.2 haben die Entwickler mehrere kritische Lücken geschlossen, die Angreifer zum Kompromittieren eines Systems ausnutzen können.

Zudem soll sich nun DNS-Prefetching leichter abschalten lassen. Spammer können in Thundbird aktiviertes DNS-Prefetching ausnutzen, um mit Links in Mails zu überprüfen, ob eine Mail gelesen wurde. Bei DNS-Prefetching lädt Thunderbird anders als bei den bekannten Webbugs keine Inhalte nach, sondern löst vorab schon einmal die eingetragenen Domains auf. Mit speziellen Subdomains und einem eigenen Nameserver kann ein Spammer dann sehen, ob eine bestimmte Anfrage aufgelöst wurde,.

Außerdem haben die Entwickler in der neuen Version mehrere Fehler in der Implementierung des IMAP-Protokolls beseitigt und die Stabilität insgesamt erhöht. Zudem wurden einige Probleme beim Upgrade von Thunderbird 2 auf Thunderbird 3 gelöst, sodass die Software Unterordner mit bestimmten Sonderzeichen nicht mehr löscht.

Anfangen möchte ich mit Glasser für Thunderbird. Damit bekommt ihr euren Thunderbird etwas durchsichtiger. Ob man das schön findet ist sicherlich Geschmackssache. Denn auch bei Firefox’ Durchsichtigkeit scheiden sich die Geister.



Bei meinem Test von Glasser für Thunderbird kam es leider häufiger vor, dass nach dem Start die Menüleisten schwarz waren – bis ich das Fenster irgendwie bewegte. Getestet habe ich mit  Portable Thunderbird 3.0.4.

Die zweite Erweiterung heisst Select Adress Book Text. Mit ihr könnt ihr endlich vollständige Adressen aus dem Adressbuch von Thunderbird kopieren. Eine Sache, die ohne diese Erweiterung nicht möglich ist.



Falls ihr noch empfehlenswerte Erweiterungen auf Lager habt – immer rein damit

Thunderbird 3 hat schon eine wirklich gute eingebaute Suche. Wer allerdings häufig E-Mails sucht, der wird sich vielleicht gewisse Automatismen oder Funktionen wünschen, die das Suchen erleichtern. Hier kommt die Erweiterung Quick Filter ins Spiel. Sie bindet eine weitere Suchfunktion in Thunderbird ein.

Neben anklickbaren Bedingungen wird die Anzahl der Ergebnisse auch angezeigt. Sicherlich nur für Menschen, die wirklich große Mengen E-Mails ihr Eigen nennen. Wenn ihr die Erweiterung noch ein bisschen genaue erklärt haben wollt, dann schaut beim Macher vorbei: Bryan Clark. Quick Filter ist eine Erweiterung des Mozilla Messaging Teams.

Im- und Export von Mailboxen in Thunderbird; Importe funktionieren nur mit lokalen Ordnern und POP3-Konten; IMAP-Konten werden derzeit nicht unterstützt.

Kleiner Tipp für Menschen, die an verschiedenen Rechnern ihre Mailkonten in Thunderbird einrichten wollen, aber aus irgendwelchen Gründen nicht Thundersave  nehmen können: Accountex. Accountex ist eine kleine Erweiterung für Thunderbird, die euch eure Kontoeinstellungen exportieren lässt. Logischerweise könnt ihr diese exportierten Daten auch wieder in eine andere Thunderbird-Installation importieren.



Funktioniert übrigens auch mit Portable Thunderbird (wie eigentlich alle Erweiterungen).
