Mozilla will Plugins im Webbrowser Firefox loswerden und Webseiten sollen künftig auf Plugins verzichten. Die meisten Plugins werden mittlerweile erst nach einer expliziten Bestätigung des Benutzers aktiviert. Jetzt will Mozilla einigen Plugins noch einmal eine Schonfrist über eine Whitelist gewähren.

Mozilla hat nach Angaben von Chad Weiner, Direktor für die Produktverwaltung von Firefox, bereits viel dafür getan, dass Plugins nicht mehr benötigt werden. Plugins seien schon immer eine häufige Ursache von Geschwindigkeitsproblemen, Abstürzen und Sicherheitslücken gewesen. Die meisten Funktionen von Plugins könnten heute mit Standard-Webtechnologien implementiert werden, erst recht nach der Ankunft von Technologien wie emscripten und asm.js. Nach etlichen Tests haben die Firefox-Entwickler daher beschlossen, die meisten Plugins nicht mehr automatisch zu starten, wenn sie benötigt werden, sondern dem Benutzer eine Warnung anzuzeigen und ihn den Start bestätigen zu lassen. Diese Funktion wird »Click to Play« genannt.

MozillaCacheView reads the cache folder of Mozilla Firefox and Netscape web browsers, and displays the list of all files currently stored in the cache. For each cache file, the following is displayed: URL, Content type, File size, Last modified time, Last fetched time, Expiration time, Fetch count, Server name, and more. You can select one or more items from the cache list, and then extract the files to another folder, or copy the URLs list to the clipboard.
