Changes in Audacity 1.3.10
Bug fixes for:
Imports and Exports:
* Freeze importing audio files when Default View Mode set to Pitch (EAC)
* Simultaneous On-Demand imports sorted incorrectly
* WAV or AIFF files imported as noise if Preferences set to copy in the data at 24-bit quality
* WMA exports corrupted if they contained metadata
* Metadata Editor appeared before the Export window when exporting to any format
Effects:
* Crash or hang using Equalization on longer tracks
* Reverse did not reverse clip boundaries
* Nyquist:
o Excessive memory consumption led to slow processing or crashes
o Values appearing in text boxes not always the default or previously entered values
o Errors running in European locales where comma used as decimal separator
* VST effects remained in Effect menu even when re-scanned and no longer available
* Truncate Silence produced incorrect results if silences spanned a block boundary
Other bug fixes:
* Spurious "not writable/disk full" errors when saving projects
* Playing, rendering or exporting multiple tracks led to desynchronized playback or loss of audio data
* Crash opening Preferences when no recording and/or playback devices enabled or connected
* Preferences window: OK button did not respond to ENTER when a tab selected in left-hand panel
* Mixer Board solo button handling
* (Windows) After a period launching correctly, Audacity sometimes did not come up on top at launch
* (Mac OS X) Correctly installed Help folder could not be found
* (Mac OS X and Linux) Output slider could affect VU playback meter which then did not reflect actual waveform volume level
* (Linux) Undoing or redoing a label edit could cause a crash
Changes and improvements:
* Linked audio and label tracks disabled until a future Beta version so they can be bug fixed
* Input volume slider will be disabled if it doesn't have proper control of system slider; use the system slider instead
* Proper support for copying/pasting label-with-audio including label text; new Edit > Paste Text to New Label menu item to paste system clipboard
* Contrast Tool now modeless, more intuitive handling of multiple project windows, various other minor improvements

Known Issues at Release
Please also check:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Known_Issues
for details of any issues that have been identified after release of
this version.
* Imports:
* On-Demand WAV/AIFF import not available if using the optional
FFmpeg importer (that is, if "FFmpeg-compatible files" set in
the import dialog)
* If a WAV/AIFF file is imported into a project using On-Demand
import, then the file is deleted whilst the project is still
open, the track plays silently with no warning about not
being able to read the file
* (Windows) The Audacity executable cannot be added to the
Explorer "Open With" menu if you have another version
of Audacity also called "audacity.exe". You can set the
file association to always use the Audacity Beta executable
to open the required file type, but it will not appear in
the list accessed by the "Open With" context menu item
whilst there is another "audacity.exe" on the computer.
* Exports:
* Album art and lyrics in imported metadata lost when exporting
* WAVEX (Microsoft) headers: GSM 6.10 files cannot be exported, and
U-Law/A-Law files may not be playable
* M4A: exports at 38000 Hz may not play properly (FFmpeg bug); M4A
renamed to MOV will not play on Windows in iTunes or QuickTime
* WMA: no metadata is exported; this has been disabled because
Windows cannot play the files if metadata is included (due to
a current limitation in FFmpeg)
* Custom FFmpeg Export: many combinations of formats and codecs
are incompatible, as are some combinations of general options
and codecs. Some files may be exported as zero kb files.
* Muting specific time-shifted mono tracks produces audio at wrong
point on timeline in exported file if muted tracks are to left
of unmuted
* (Windows) Exported "Comments" ID3 tag not recognised by Windows
Media Player or Explorer
* Genre WAV info tag (IGNR) not supported due to limitation in
libsndfile
* It is currently possible to attempt simultaneous imports or exports
by using shortcuts (or File > New on Mac): Audacity is not yet
capable of running these simultaneous operations safely, and
attempting this may crash your project
* Effects and Analysis:
* Built-in Generate effects may create additional unwanted split lines
if generated inside an existing clip
* Truncate Silence does not adjust clip boundaries inside the selection
being truncated.
* Truncate Silence may not give intuitive results on multiple tracks.
* Nyquist effects join separate clips together
* LADSPA Multiband EQ (optional download) may not be visible in
the Effect menu, or may crash in use
* Label tracks:
* Typing "j" or "k" in a label may activate the "move cursor"
shortcut instead
* After adding a label at the playback position and confirming with
ENTER, using an unmodified shortcut to stop or pause will not do
so, but will write a label at the cursor position. Workaround:
use up arrow instead of ENTER to confirm the label.
* Mixer Board:
* The meter range does not reflect a change in the dB range meter
preferences until restart
* Accessibility:
* The following may not read correctly in screen readers:
Labels, cells in Label Editor, time values in Generate effects,
accelerators in Preferences, Metadata Editor(JAWS 11)
* Toolbar buttons cannot be clicked on by using ENTER on the keyboard:
ENTER navigates to the next button instead
* Entering a backslash "\" in a file name when using File > Save Project
gives a "not writable or disk full" error, after which the menu item
cannot access the save dialog. Workaround: Use File > Save Project As
to enter another legal character.
* Dependencies dialog shows no warning if listed files no longer exist,
and may give a false "self-contained" indication if a longer waveform
has been edited down to a short selection
* It is no longer possible to use Save Project or Save Project As to
overwrite another pre-existing project, even if that project is not
in use. Functionality to overwrite a project not in use will be
restored in a future version of Audacity when we are sure it will
always be safe.
* Play-at-Speed slider: Change of playback speed is no longer automatic
after you move the play-at-speed slider. To change speed, move the
slider, then click the green button to left of the slider to play at
the new speed.
* If playback scrolls, cursor jumps to start of scroll on stop, hiding
previously visible audio preceding the playback position
* Not all menu items correctly enabled when the preference:
"Select all audio in project, if none selected" is checked
* A few interface elements do not change correctly after a language
change until restart
* If you add an external audio device while Audacity is open, you
must restart Audacity to enable it to recognise that device
* Calculation of "disk space remains for recording (time)" incorrect
when recording in 24-bit quality. You may record for 50% longer
than the indicated time.
* Automatic Crash Recovery disregards track zoom level and position
* Projects created by Audacity 1.1.x or earlier are no longer
supported. Workaround: Export each project track as WAV using the
appropriate legacy version of Audacity, then import the WAV files
into current Audacity.
* Audacity can import, display and cut/copy/paste MIDI files, then
export them, but they cannot be played; undoing an edit with a MIDI
track open causes the MIDI data to be lost in Windows builds
* Intermittently occurring bugs: Please write to feedback@audacityteam.org
if you experience any of these known but not fully understood
issues, giving us steps to reproduce them so they can be fixed.
For items marked ^, some work has already been done which may
have eliminated the issue - your help with testing these issues
is especially welcome.
* Projects do not reopen properly with "orphaned" or "missing"
blockfiles or "duplicate attribute" errors
* Projects do not re-open properly from the Automatic
Crash Recovery dialog
* Projects crash when applying repeated effects towards
the end of audio tracks^
* WAV or AIFF files freeze or crash Audacity on import
* (Windows XP, reported on) Clicks during recording
* (Windows) Timer Record unreliable with recordings starting
before and ending after midnight
* (Windows) On Vista and 7, and on XP with some USB microphones, the
Audacity input/output level sliders act independently of/incorrectly
with system level sliders:^
* The achieved recorded level only matches the level indicated on
the Recording VU meter if the Audacity input slider is at 100%
* On Vista, adjusting the system level sliders then starting to
record may reset the system level sliders unless monitoring is on
* (Windows) Effects processing/waveform rendering after completion
may be much slower than Audacity Beta 1.3.8
* (Mac OS X 10.5.8 PPC) Hang when scanning for VST effects on first
install of Audacity Beta. Workaround: rename the system VST folders
/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST or ~/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST
* (Linux) After opening a sufficiently long audio file, opening a
second file of any size leads to locked GUI/console messages
until first file completes play
* (Windows XP) The input slider and selector for inbuilt devices are
unavailable if a USB device is also connected
* (Windows 7) On launching Audacity, "Runtime Error Program:(location)
R6034" occurs. Workaround: Right-click over audacity.exe > Properties
and change compatibility mode to Vista SP2 or XP SP3.
* (Windows) Visible scanning dialog appears on every launch of Audacity
when no VST plug-ins are present
* (Windows) On Vista and 7, input sources such as microphone and line-in
must be selected in the Audacity Audio I/O Preferences, not the
Mixer Toolbar input selector
* (Windows) Timer Record cannot maintain scheduled duration if system
clock changes
* (Windows) Audacity is incompatible with some professional sound
cards and may crash if one of these cards is the default when you
open Audacity: as a workaround, make a different sound card your
default when using Audacity, but please let us know if this affects
you so we can track down and solve the problem
* (Mac OS X) Very occasionally, users may find that recording causes
"error opening sound device", or that after running Audacity, other
media players don't produce any sound, or crash:to resolve this,
set up your sound device in Apple Audio MIDI Setup to work in stereo,
16-bit, with a sample rate of 44100 Hz or 48000 Hz, and set the
sample format and rate identically in Audacity. More help at:
http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5064
* (Mac OS X) If using Audacity when the "Hear" audio plug-in is
running (or has been since boot), there will be excessive memory
usage which could cause a crash: appears to be due to buggy
memory allocation in "Hear"
* (Linux) If Audacity is left open but without focus, its CPU use
will rise slowly until all available the system CPU is consumed.
This is a bug in wxGTK 2.8.10 (not previous versions) which will
be fixed in wxGTK 2.8.11. See: http://trac.wxwidgets.org/ticket/11315
* (Linux) The OK button has focus on opening effects and other dialogs,
instead of fields for changing values. This is a bug in wxGTK. To
navigate the dialog, tab into it or click in it.
* (Linux) Audacity now supports interfacing with JACK, but this has
not been tested, and has a number of known reliability and usability
issues: patches to improve both will be welcomed
* (Linux) Custom FFmpeg Export dialog does not respond to ENTER after
clicking in the Formats or Codecs selector
Also note the Windows installer will not replace 1.2.x installations,
but will install alongside them.

Changes in Audacity 1.3.13
Bug fixes for:
Interface:
Cutting or copying from a track at a given sample rate into a track at another rate resulted in speed-changed audio.
Generating inside a clip could modify the clip length or create spurious clips.
Recorded stereo tracks were only half the height of imported or generated stereo tracks. Imported stereo files had a "1" appended to the track name.
Edit > Region Save did not save the cursor position.
(Windows) Projects crashed when clicking rapidly inside the interface or when applying repeated effects towards the end of audio tracks.
(Windows) Some Unicode characters could not be typed into labels,or caused a freeze using some input methods.
(OS X) Crash when quitting an empty project window, or when closing the main project window while a progress dialog was on screen.
Numerous other interface fixes including Dependencies dialog, Keyboard Preferences and spurious lines drawn on waveform.
Imports and Exports:
Support added for later versions of the optional FFmpeg library up to current FFmpeg HEAD. This should significantly improve FFmpeg support on Linux. FFmpeg downloads for Windows and Mac updated to v0.6. This fixes mono AAC files importing as stereo, though current 0.5 versions of FFmpeg will still work.
Both FFmpeg and LAME should now be properly detected even when other versions of those libraries exist on the system.
New warning (on by default) for importing uncompressed audio files. Better error messages when read-directly uncompressed files are missing.
Imported ID3v2 metadata tags were removed when exporting without the Metadata Editor appearing (for example, when using an export command in Chains). Note: As a result of this fix, ID3v1 tags must now be written by exporting using (external program) and an installed LAME.
U-Law/A-Law files with WAV headers now use the standard 18 byte fmt chunk, so should now be recognised by most telephony applications.
Variable bit rate MP3s exported using "MP3 Files" were larger than necessary because using the bit reservoir was disabled.
(OS X) Files imported from iTunes could create invalid characters in the .aup project file, causing an error when re-opening the project. Note: An error "reference to invalid character number" will still occur if re-opening a project created in previous Betas that contains such characters. To fix the issue, open a back-up copy of the .aup file in a text editor, turn off word wrap, then in the line indicated in the error message, remove the string of characters that starts with &# and ends with a semi-colon (;).
Other bug fixes:
Nyquist effects: fixes for crashes, incorrect slider behaviour and better support for backslashes, double quotes and Unicode characters.
(Windows and OS X) Processing of VST effects was substantially slower than in previous versions of Audacity.
(OS X 10.5 PPC) A first-time installation of Audacity Beta would hang on launch if VST effects were detected.
(Linux) Recordings made with the pulse device crashed or stalled when using overdub and/or software playthrough.
(Linux) Play-at-Speed crashed at 0.08 speed or lower if Audacity was configured with libsamplerate.
Changes and improvements:
Control Toolbar renamed to Transport Toolbar.
Device Toolbar (on by default) now contains all input and output device choices, including host and recording channels. Input/output choices are no longer in Mixer Toolbar on Windows XP or some older operating systems. New Transport > Rescan Audio Devices menu item to refresh the device list.
New "Sync-Lock Tracks" feature (turned on in the Tracks menu) to allow groups of audio and/or label tracks to retain synchronisation when the track length changes.
Equalization: New "Manage Curves" dialog for importing and exporting curves.
Noise Removal: New "Sensitivity" slider to adjust the noise threshold, and new option to isolate noise.
New "Extended Import" Preferences for specifying different importers to open specific file extensions.
Improved Automatic Crash Recovery with all project changes autosaved.
MIDI tracks can be vertically zoomed, time shifted and display bar lines. Note: the channel selection buttons are not available in 1.3.13.
(Windows and Linux) The window Close button and other system close or shutdown commands now quit on closing the last window. File > Close now always clears to a new, empty project.
(OS X) Simpler installer with top-level "Audacity" folder.

What's new: >>
Beta version
Audacity 1.3 Beta is our new, not quite finished, development version which will be the basis of our next "stable" version. Contains dozens of new, exciting features. Very occasionally, these might need final polishing or not be retained in later versions. Occasionally, a feature might not work as it did before, or might be temporarily disabled.
Some parts of the program are not yet documented or translated into different languages.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
-
Bug fixes:
Fixes for data loss when encountering corrupted project files. Steps taken to prevent writing of overlong audio data block files.
Excessive delay occurred when typing into labels in long projects.
MP2 files could not be imported natively. File types requiring FFmpeg library imported as noise if FFmpeg was unavailable.
Crashes fixed when dragging tracks. Crash fixed when resetting Toolbars when an audio stream was present.
Plot Spectrum didn't preserve signal level if multiple tracks were analyzed.
Changes and Improvements:
Normalize now preserves left-right balance in stereo tracks by default with an option to normalize stereo channels independently.
Spectrograms now allow window sizes up to 32768 and frequencies up to half the sample rate (the maximum possible).
Mix and Render now preserves clip length by not rendering white space before the start of audio, and preserves audio before time zero.
CleanSpeech Mode has been removed from Preferences but can be run or disabled in 1.3.14 by changing Preferences in a previous Audacity version.
(OS X) Added support for AudioUnit MusicEffects (but no MIDI support).

Changes in Audacity 2.0:
• Bug fixes for:
- Interface:
* Fixed playback speed and synchronization problems when dragging clips or tracks between tracks having different sample rates.
* (Windows) Removed a crash risk where shortcuts could be used to record or import in one project while importing or exporting in another.
- Imports and Exports:
* Fixed crashes when changing the sample format of read-directly WAV or AIFF files using the Track Drop-Down Menu.
* Fixed a crash importing MP3 files that had duplicate metadata tags (this is a bug in current libsndfile which has been patched in Audacity; MP3 files mislabeled as WAV which have duplicate tags will still crash Audacity on Linux if Audacity has been compiled against an affected version of system libsndfile).
* Fixed an issue where excessively high or corrupted sample values in the audio could corrupt exports from the start of the problem for the rest of the file, and could corrupt the rest of the project.
- Effects and Analysis:
* Fixed crash on launch when using "Ambisonic Decoders (PC)" VST plug-ins and other plug-ins that enable additional floating point exceptions.
* Fixed Plot Spectrum background could be transparent on some machines.
* Bug fixes for Click Track, High Pass, Low Pass and Vocal Remover.
* Chirp, Tone and Silence generators now remember their settings.
- Other miscellaneous bug fixes.
• Changes and Improvements:
* New Interface preference to show the track name in the display (this is off by default).
* Longer default Playback preference for effects preview and preview before cut.
* Restored use of Page Up and Page Down to scroll horizontally.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
-
Changelog:
Changes since version 2.0.0:
Bug fixes for:
* Interface:
* Selection Toolbar: a value for the previous whole second
displayed if the value was close to a whole second.
* Finding zero crossings could cause the selection to expand into
white space at either side of the clip.
* Clips did not drag to another track if mouse was over a selection.
* Mixer Board: Rendering four tracks resulted in a redundant Track
Strip followed by a crash.
* Imports and Exports:
* Exporting to WAV or AIFF led to a "Libsndfile says" error or
corrupted output due to order of metadata in imported files.
* (Mac) Fixed crashes importing MP3 files on PPC machines.
* Effects and Analysis:
* Normalize: Fixed issues where normalization could be to wrong
value if applied with DC offset correction, or if applied to
"read-directly" WAV and AIFF files before On-Demand completed.
* Sliding Time Scale: fixed an audible discontinuity at the
beginning of the processed selection; fixed a serious quality
problem on Linux 64-bit.
* Other miscellaneous bug fixes, including fix to prevent zooming
with mouse wheel or ball scrolling the content off-screen,
Changes and Improvements:
* Shortcuts can now be added in Keyboard Preferences to items in the
Generate, Effect or Analyze menus, including user-added plug-ins.
* Nyquist Effect plug-ins can now be added to Chains.
* New "Paulstretch" effect for extreme slowdown without pitch change.
* New "Sample Data Export" Analyze effect for exporting a file
containing amplitude values for each sample in the selection.
* New Preference to import files On-Demand (without seeking ability)
when using the optional FFmpeg library.
* (Windows installer) New option to reset Preferences on next launch.
* (Mac) Audacity now has excellent compatibility with the VoiceOver
screen reader. For details, please see:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/help/manual/man/accessibility.html#mac .
* CleanSpeech Mode (no longer supported) will not now be enabled
even if it was enabled by an earlier version of Audacity.
* Added Serbian (Latin and Cyrillic) translations.

WaveShop
free, open-source audio editor for Windows XP/Vista/7. It is fast, lightweight, and bit-perfect, meaning samples aren't altered unless they need to be. Editing a portion of an audio file only affects that portion; the rest of the file is untouched. Blocks of audio can be cut and pasted without changing their contents at all. This is especially useful for patching a finished master without corrupting its dither. 1.0.2.003
This update adds sample rate conversion, MP3 import, and easy file concatenation.
Sample rate conversion is supported via libsamplerate. The command is Audio/Resample.
MP3 import is supported via libmad. The decoder can output 16-bit or 24-bit PCM.

The Edit/Insert file dialog now allows multiple selection, so it's easy to concatenate many audio files at once. The same applies to concatenating channels via Insert Channel.
The naming convention for mono files generated by Extract Channels has changed: the speaker name is now prefixed by the channel number, so the files sort correctly.
The active document's audio format is now shown in the status bar.
In the Find Clipping command, the clipping level can now be specified, to find peaks.
The VBR encoding quality for writing Ogg/Vorbis can now be changed, in Options/Audio.
Automatic scrolling during selection drag was slow or failed in certain cases; fixed.

A peak meter bar was added; it fully supports surround audio.
Channel names can now be optionally displayed in the view.
For 32-bit audio only, RMS Statistics handled the negative rail incorrectly; fixed.
Adjacently docked sizing bars were displaying an unexpected black border; fixed.
Editing speaker assignments caused the audio player to escape its loop; fixed.
Resample, Format, and Delete/Insert Channel were resetting speaker assignments; fixed.

This update adds spectral analysis, both static and real-time.
A command was added to analyze the frequency spectrum of audio; see Audio/Spectrum.
A real-time spectrum analyzer was added; see View/More Bars/Spectrum.
In rulers and plots, the number of minor ticks now varies with unit and zoom.
Resizing the RMS histogram caused severe flicker; fixed via double-buffering.
Canceling during RMS statistics reenabled the main menu, allowing reentrance and potentially causing a crash if the document was closed before the RMS dialog; fixed.

LASTAR is a batch (non-interactive) audio processor for loudness adjustment and file splitting of a batch of audio recordings, using audio transparent maximizer.
At the opposite of usual available softwares, loudness normalization is done on signal power, which leads to a louder and more homogeneous result than a usual "peak" normalization, in particular on live recordings.
Its purposes are :
to split and normalize digitized analog tapes or vinyls,
to split and normalize live recordings from microphones (ex ZOOM H2 recordings),
fast and homogeneous normalization of a group of files (compilation for instance),
loudness and dynamic reduction for listening in a noisy environment (car...)
and so on...
This software aims to be very fast and easy to use : the most efficient computing techniques have been implemented, and there are very few parameters to set (most of them are automatically adjusted by analyzing the file).
It embeds :
an automatic RMS normalizer,
an Automatic Gain Controller (compressor)
a 3 bands semi-parametric equalizer
a file splitter
a noise gate
preset management
a preview function.

Whats new:>>
WaveShop now uses Common Controls 6.0, AKA the XP theme. This gives the app a more modern appearance, and makes it more compatible with Windows 7 and Aero.
After opening an AAC or MP4 file, it appeared that the file could be saved in the same format, when in fact WaveShop can only read AAC/MP4 format, not write it. This made it easy to create a file with a file extension of .acc, but actually containing WAV format. Attempting to open such a file in WaveShop gave the error "Channel coupling not yet implemented." Fixed, by forcing a Save As dialog and changing the file extension.
In Windows 7, list controls weren't repainting their columns during column resizing. Dragging a separator in the list header caused a vertical line to be displayed indicating the column width, and column repainting was deferred until the left mouse button was released. In XP this behavior is associated with unchecking the "Show window contents while dragging" setting in Display Properties/Appearance/Effects, but Windows 7 works very differently. Fixed by using Common Controls 6.0; for details, see here.
If the Metadata Editor dialog was resized, the Clear button didn't move. Fixed.

Audacity 2.0.5 replaces all previous versions. It fixes crashes or hangs that were reported in Audacity 2.0.4 on some machines, and contains many other bug fixes and stability improvements.
(OS X) Crashes when importing audio files are fixed.
(OS X) Files can now be opened using Finder "Open with", and by double-click or dragging to the Audacity icon.
(OS X) Audio Unit plug-ins are not loaded until used. This makes Audacity start faster and avoids startup crashes due to incompatible plug-ins.
(Windows) On a very few machines, the Windows WDM-KS low latency host caused Audacity 2.0.4 to hang or the computer to crash. WDM-KS has been removed from Audacity 2.0.5 while we work on safely enabling this host. WDM-KS will still be available for testing in the Windows alpha development builds.
(Windows) Fixed a bug where Audacity would not record until the current input was reselected.
(Linux) You can now navigate through an effect or other dialog using keyboard TAB.
Other bugs have been fixed, notably shaped dither being too loud, as detailed in the 2.0.5 Release Notes.

This update fixes an issue with playing surround audio files in Windows 7.
In Windows 7, an audio file with more than two channels wouldn't play unless it had a non-zero channel mask with one speaker assigned to each channel. A zero channel mask indicates default speaker assignments and should work, but in Windows 7 it causes a DirectSound error. WaveShop now detects this case and synthesizes a channel mask.
Previous versions could crash while attempting to read a corrupted WAV file, particularly if the file's data chunk was smaller than expected e.g. due to truncation. Fixed.

* New "Crossfade Tracks" effect can be used for crossfading two tracks.
This replaces Cross Fade In and Cross Fade Out.
* Nyquist Prompt and most shipped Nyquist effects now have Preview button.
* Interface:
* Redesigned Meter Toolbars: The default shows separate Record and Playback
Meters, half-height so they can be wider while docked, in gradient style.
* A frequency selection can now be made (and spectral edit effects applied
to those frequencies) when in a spectrogram view. You can also create
or adjust frequency selections in a new "Spectral Selection Toolbar"
(available at View > Toolbars).
* Transcription Toolbar (Play-at-speed) can now loop play and cut-preview.
* Timer Record now saves recordings automatically into an existing project.
* New Armenian translation.
* Operating system and sound device support:

* Please report any issues with WASAPI recording/playback or Yosemite
to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/contact/#feedback .
* (Linux Ubuntu) Under Unity, keyboard shortcuts are not visible in the
Audacity menus. Keyboard shortcuts are visible if you install the classic
GNOME Flashback interface or under Unity if you open Audacity with the
UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 environment variable. Audacity compiled from source
will ship with src/audacity.desktop.in set to UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 but it
will remain up to distributions to use this desktop file.
Bug fixes:
* Interface:
* Typing "j" or "k" in a label track activated the "move cursor" shortcut.
* Spectrogram log (f) view displayed incorrectly until vertically zoomed.
* Fixed crash after zooming out on vertical scale beyond +/-1.0.
* Selections made with Selection Toolbar were not restored after Undo.
* Undo could fail silently if a selection included/touched a clip boundary.
* Imports and Exports
* If there were invalid FFmpeg libs in system PATH this prevented Audacity
recognising the installed FFmpeg or the FFmpeg specified in audacity.cfg.
* Mac OS X:
* Fix uninitialized buffer - this should correct playback buzz or crackle
where the upper of multiple tracks started with or contained white space.
* Device names were corrupted when using system language other than English.

Release Notes
Audacity 2.1.3 now properly supports Windows 10 (thanks to an upgrade of the PortAudio library) and on macOS has some previously missing support for Magic Mouse/Trackpad (thanks to Paul Licameli).
However, the goalposts we’re aiming for keep moving, and we only have partial support for macs updated to Sierra. We found on some Mac Sierra machines that important extensions to the core of Audacity can become unavailable. Full details of Mac Sierra support here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Partial_Support_for_Mac_Sierra_in_2.1.3.
Audacity 2.1.3 is the last version of Audacity that will officially support Windows XP.
New in Audacity 2.1.3:
New features – see updated manual for details:
New Distortion effect, Rhythm Track (was called Click Track) and Sample Data Import (thanks to Steve Daulton). Also effects are no longer grayed-out when in pause.
New scrub ruler (Paul)
New ‘pinned’ option so the waveform moves and the recording/playing head stays still. (Paul)
New features in Timer Record (Mark Young & Steve)
Changed in Audacity 2.1.3:
On Mac, audacity.app is now added to /Applications/ directly rather than adding a folder there.
64 bugs/annoyances in 2.1.2 fixed of which 15 were long standing issues. (Entire team involved; Tracking and testing by Gale)
Lots done (by Paul) to systematically deal with memory leaks.
Fuller details on the changes since 2.1.2 can be found in the 2.1.3 Release Notes.

Major work on bug fixing. 198 bugs that were in 2.1.3 fixed for 2.2.0.
The most serious bug fixed this time round was bug 437 which was about what happens when Audacity is recording and runs out of storage.
The problems of incomplete support for macOs Sierra have been resolved (including bug 290, bug 1567, bug 1702, and bug 1703).
Most of the bugs fixed were more minor, such as bug 463 which was about a case in which the numbering on the timeline could display incorrect times.

Changelog
IMPROVEMENTS:
Waveform colorways:
You can optionally change the colorway of the waveforms displayed in your project. The setting is per track and not per project so you can have multiple colorways in the same project as in the image below.
Four colorways are available with the color selection made from the dropdown menu in the track's Track Control Panel.
"Save Other" reverts to "Export" in the File menu:
When we made the menu changes for 2.2.0 we introduced an entry into the File menu called "Save Other" which led to a sub-menu for exporting various audio formats.
Many users were confused by this change and found it hard to find where they could export audio from. So for 2.2.1 we have changed that menu entry to be File > Export.

Wave Editor is a fast and easy digital audio editing software for Windows. It provides powerful and user-friendly editing environment which suits beginners especially and perform basic editing capabilities like: cut, copy, paste and delete parts of recording.
Unlike the other sound editors based on the same ActiveX engine, our editor developed from the ground up to be easy in use and fast. The user interface was designed with speed, accuracy and ease of use in mind.
Key feature of Wave Editor is a simple selection of audio blocks during playback. Non-destructive editing allows you to make simulated changes to an audio track without overwriting the original file.

Changelog
Over 20 bugs fixed, and a few small improvements/changes to features (since 2.3.0):
That annoying message from Apple saying: “32-bit support will be going the way of the dodo”, no longer shows when you install Audacity on Mac. The new 64-bit Audacity works with 64-bit libraries. To use FFmpeg or MP3 libraries with 64-bit Audacity, you will need to download the updated 64-bit versions.
On Windows, you may find that recording is disabled until you change Windows permissions for the microphone! That’s a security feature introduced by Windows. This affects all versions of Audacity, and affects many other audio programs.
New:
Options and preferences:
Microfades are now an opt-in feature. They were always on in 2.3.0.
The advanced vertical zooming option is now available in the View->Zoom menu.
Regular interval labels now support range labels.
Bug Fixes:
Over 20 bugs that were in 2.3.0 fixed, including:
A crashing bug on Linux that made Audacity 2.3.0. unsuitable for Linux.
Crash on Mac when right clicking on label.
Problems with Change Pitch, including not remembering parameter values.

DarkAudacity is a lightweight, yet powerful tool that provides you with a fast and versatile environment for processing audio samples and mixing tracks.
License: GPLv2
Changelog
DarkAudacity 2.3.2x, changes since earlier versions.
Many of the changes pioneered in Dark Audacity 2.1.3x have now ben integrated
into mainstream Audacity 2.3.2. Audacity has updated its standard (light)
theme to use much of the new design. Audacity now offers our dark theme as
a new option. Audacity has reorganised its menus to be more compact.
There isn't a lot of difference between DarkAudacity and Audacity. That's
mainly because I've been doing the work of modifying Audacity to have the
new features.
Dark Audacity is working well as a way to blaze new trails. These are
some key differences between DarkAudacity 2.3.2x and Audacity 2.3.2.
* Interface:
* Dark is the default theme.
* Mute and Solo buttons are stacked rather than side-by-side.
* Larger cursor position indicator in Selection Toolbar.
* Combined Device, Meter and Mixer toolbars into one simpler toolbar.
* Option of LED meters (it's the new default).
* Different Logos.
* Clutter on left of track panel removed rather than moved to the bottom.
* Other Changes:
* Installer ships without manual; Translations not installed; accessibility
support not enabled. Only Windows. [These save me a lot of time in
preparing a release - e.g 3 platforms = 3x the work.].
Bug fixes:
* 82 bugs we knew about in 2.1.2x addressed, 66 closed, 16 had some residual
problems after the fixes. These issues included a dramatic slowdown when
using Lyrics Window with lots of lyrics (fully fixed), and labels
being written at the wrong position in some circumstances (fully fixed). I'm
not listing all these issues, but this gives an idea of the kind of issue.
* At least as much work has gone into other issues which we did not know about
when we released 2.1.2x. These were for example caused by work on new
features, and usually were in those features, or came to light as a result
of code review (mostly code review by Paul).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Known Issues in 2.3.2x:
Please see the facebook page for DarkAudacity for discussion of issues.
Many issues that affect Audacity 2.3.2 will affect DarkAudacity 2.3.2x too,
since DarkAudacity and Audacity have a lot of code in common. Many Audacity
2.3.2 issues are listed here:

Changelog
Audacity now includes the LAME MP3 encoder. Previously, due to now expired patents, you had to download it separately.
There is a new Select button in the track panel to select the whole track.
Audacity mod-script-pipe for driving Audacity from Python now comes with Audacity and it can be enabled via preferences.
Over 20 bugs fixed since 2.3.1. The most serious bug was that Audacity 2.3.1 would crash if append-recording to a collapsed track.

Changelog
Supported the latest build of Windows 10 (1903).
Supported the usage on 4K monitors.
Supported the usage on 8K monitors in partial.
To support these monitors, the installer was improved as well.
Some fixes on the translated texts.
Greek (Revision) support was made possible by geogeo.gr at geogeo.gr. Thanks really a lot!!
Update (2019/05/19):
Updated Mp3 encoding engine.
Equipped many counter-measures against "Sound Driver Errors". This will try to prevent the sudden errors, such that the recording speed suddenly goes wrong or so, because of their malfunctions. If this version still can't fix the problems, it usually can be fixed very easily only by re-installing the latest sound driver for your motherboard.
It now prevents the "skip" of the recorded audio when the PC is fully loaded or CPU ability is low. On the other hand, the graphical "graph display" of the recorded audio will be delayed from this version when the CPU is busy.
Some bug fixes on the installer.
Supported 6 more languages for the installer. (Spanish, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Indonesian, Vietnamese)
Supported 23 additional languages for the software, which are the followings.
Arabic

Brazilian Portuguese
Bulgarian
Czech
Serbian (Cyrillic)

wxWidgets Library
The main change since 2.4.1 is that we have upgraded the wxWidgets library that Audacity uses from 3.1.1 (with patches by us) to 3.1.3 (with patches by us). We wanted to do this as a release in its own right, before we start on a longer and more complex release.
If you’re using Audacity 2.4.2 on Linux, do use the right wxWidgets library. We’ve in the past had a lot of reports of problems on Linux that turned out in the end to be because some distributions were using system wxWidgets (3.0.0) with Audacity.
Bugs fixed
We’ve fixed 41 bugs since 2.4.1. The exact number of bugs fixed depends on how you count, but anyway, it’s a worthwhile number of fixes.
Configuration Reset
There is one new small feature. In the Tools menu there is now a ‘Reset Configuration’ menu item. When you click on it, it resets most of the configuration back to defaults.

Release Notes
We’re pleased to announce release of Audacity 3.0.2 which replaces all previous versions for Windows, macOS and Linux. This is a significant bug fixing release.
Better Diagnostics:
As well as bug fixing we have also added more detailed reporting into Audacity to track down some hopefully not too common problems with the new format we introduced in 3.0.0. If you see an unexpected error message with a “Show Log…” button on it, please send the log to feedback@audacityteam.org, tell us how the problem happened, and whether it’s repeatable. We think, but do not know for sure yet, that some problems some users of 3.0.0 have had may be caused by networked drives which are slower than drives on the same laptop. We’ve increased a ‘timeout’ which should fix that.
Macro Output:
Users of the Macro feature in Audacity to process multiple files will find there is a new preference, Macro output, for where the results are put. The old way of doing things put the results with the files being processed. You can still do that if you want to keep doing it that way by adding an extra step in your macros.
Untangling Code:
In parallel with 3.0.2 and 3.0.0 work, we’ve been doing a lot of other work on Audacity on another branch that is for the future and not in 3.0.2. Paul Licameli has been untangling dependencies in Audacity and making many graphs of the structure to guide what to untangle next. Here is a small extract of one of those graphs.
If code is hard to work with, we work more slowly. These changes to untangle the code should make Audacity more flexible, and make it easier to work with the code. We kept these changes out of 3.0.0 and 3.0.2, as the changes were substantial and the important aup3 work took precedence. Hopefully the more flexible cleaner structure will be a big win for future versions of Audacity.
Bug Fixes:
3.0.2 has some simple to do but important bug fixes. The compressor effect was not working for longer selections. We were also very occasionally getting an error messages at start up of Audacity, requiring a restart of Audacity. You can read more about what we did for 3.0.2 on the New Features page of the manual.
Progress!
We hope you enjoy Audacity 3.0.2. We’ve made the big move to aup3 format and Paul has untangled a lot of our code for easier future work. We’re hoping we can now start moving forward more quickly with more visible improvements with these changes done.

Sample tab
- [Imp] <js> Can now resample all samples at once by holding shift when pressing the resample button (http://bugs.openmpt.org/view.php?id=1368).
Instrument tab
- [Fix] <js> Saving an XI instrument from an IT or MPTM module could cause wrong transposition for samples with a middle-C frequency below 8363 Hz (http://bugs.openmpt.org/view.php?id=1449).
- [Fix] <js> Saving an ITI instrument from an XM module converted auto-vibrato sweep incorrectly.
Playback
- [Fix] <jh> In quad surround mode, Bass Expansion incorrectly applied DC removal to the front channels twice instead of applying it once to front and back channels.
MPTM
- [Fix] <js> The "Do not reset OPL channel status at end of envelopes" compatibility flag was effectively force-enabled for all modules made with OpenMPT 1.29, while it should have been disabled.
- [Fix] <js> Files with OPL instruments were sometimes written in a way so that older OpenMPT and libopenmpt versions without OPL support could no longer read certain song properties and warn that the file was created with a more recent version of OpenMPT.
- [Fix] <js> The old OpenMPT 1.28 retrigger behaviour for OPL instruments differed depending on the chosen output sample rate. Retrigger now always retriggers notes as expected, which was already the case when the mix rate was chosen to be 48000 Hz. The corresponding compatibility setting was removed, as it is no longer required.
IT
- [Imp] <js> Full OpenMPT version information (e.g. 1.29.10.00 instead of 1.29) is now written to IT files also when using compatibility export.
S3M
- [Imp] <js> Emulate IT short sample retrigger quirk in S3M files saved with Impulse Tracker and Schism Tracker.
- [Imp] <js> Full OpenMPT version information (e.g. 1.29.10.00 instead of 1.29) is now written to S3M files.
MOD
- [Fix] <js> Fixed possible crash when sample-swapping to a previously-deleted sample (tx bryc).
- [Fix] <js> ProTracker 3.6 doesn't support sample swapping. It is now disabled when loading a ProTracker 3.6 IFF module.
- [Fix] <js> Some files with "hidden" garbage patterns (e.g. altoflyt.mod) were not played correctly since OpenMPT 1.29.05.00 (http://bugs.openmpt.org/view.php?id=1458).
- [Fix] <js> E9x retrigger now works the same way as in ProTracker 2.
Other formats
- [Mod] <js> 669: Reject files that contain any pattern tempo higher than 15.
- [Fix] <js> MDL: Improve auto-vibrato accuracy.
- [Fix] <js> In OpenMPT 1.29.09.00, the "Save As" dialog now may have shown up every time after opening a file in an import-only format. Some actions like running the Automatic Sample Trimmer may have also prevented the dialog from showing up.
- [Fix] <js> Reduce memory consumption of malformed XPK-compressed files.
Stream Export
- [Fix] <jh> Exported 8-bit FLAC output was distorted since OpenMPT 1.29.01.00.
- [Fix] <jh> Do not offer dithering for 64-bit floating-point export.
Audio I/O
- [Mod] <jh> MME / Wave Out output devices are no longer marked as deprecated for now.
Misc
- [New] <js> Added keyboard shortcuts for increasing and decreasing tempo and ticks per row of currently playing module (tx jseb).
- [Fix] <js> Launching OpenMPT could take longer than it should depending on the current working directory, e.g. when opening modules from the task bar's jump list (http://bugs.openmpt.org/view.php?id=1444).
- [Fix] <js> Opening the help didn't open the correct page if the upper half of the view was focussed.
- [Fix] <js> Stop all playing samples when toggling "Compute note frequency in Hertz" compatibility setting.
Third-Party Libraries
- [Imp] Update mpg123 (v1.27.2)

Changelog
Key improvements:
Windows version is now 64-bit
Improved default spectrogram colors
We now provide an official binary for Linux in the form of an AppImage
Bugs fixing
Highlighted Issues:
Below are listed what we believe are the most common and important issues with 3.0.3 for most users.
Accessibility:
Less of Audacity is properly accessible to visually impaired users than we would like. Currently the best supported platform for accessibility is Windows. We lost a lot of custom accessibility programming when we had to move to a more recent version of the wxWidgets library.
Internationalization:
Audacity is only partially translated in many languages. We also have some issues, for example, with Right-To-Left Languages.
Selected Bugzilla-Tracked Bugs:
If Temporary files directory is set to be unwritable then Audacity has a catalog of cryptic unhelpful errors
Audacity crashes with Macros on files when the macro-output folder is in an unwriteable location
Win/Mac: Macros running on files can't be cancelled

This is a hotfix release that fixes a bug with envelope points, which could multiply uncontrollably and cause Audacity to crash. In particular:
#1476: Envelope points are multiplied when using Filter Curve EQ or Graphic EQ
#1477: Filter Curve EQ will crash if there is an envelope point outside of the selection
This fix re-introduces an earlier, but way less destructive bug:
bugzilla 208 / #1500: Some effects delete Envelope Control Points, or do not move them when timeline changes
Other than that, this release is identical to Version 3.0.3.

Changelog
When browsing song contents in the tree view sample browser, Backspace now goes back to the folder containing the song when in the lower half of the tree view. There is now also a context menu option to close the song.
Grey out plugin names in channel headers if plugins are disabled on a channel.
Pressing the Application key on the order list and instrument editor's sample map now opens the context menu.
Added shortcuts for opening the channel context menu and channel plugin context menu.
In the instrument and effect columns, commands assigned to special keys (Num / Caps / Scroll Lock) were executed twice, so e.g. using scroll lock to toggle song follow mode didn't work in these columns.
When switching between tabs using keyboard shortcuts, and when switching between samples in the sample editor using keyboard shortcuts, the currently chosen instrument / sample is now updated correctly between pattern / samples / instrument editors.
Added shortcut to start renaming samples / instruments on the comments tab (default: Ctrl+Enter).
Since OpenMPT 1.29.01.00, it was pretty much impossible to rename instruments due to auditioning.
IT tremor command I11 erroneously behaved like I00 (use previous parameter), unless IT Old Effects were enabled.
Small playback improvments for PTM, IMF and DBM files.
SFZ: Added support for reading various other *_label opcodes. They are not used for import but if their value contains spaces, it should no longer confuse the parser.
SF2: Stereo sample merging didn't work for many soundfonts because panning values were stored for each envelope (of which there was one per instrument) rather than for each region.
DLS: The first region of every instrument was not imported in OpenMPT 1.29.12.00.
When enabling the Display.HighResUI option, some file selector dialogs could hang (presumably due to a Windows bug) when hovering the file type dropdown on a mixed-DPI monitor setup.
Key Config Dialog: Avoid bogus "Invalid Slot" message box when receiving MIDI CCs while the "Find Hotkey" input field is focussed.
Possible crash when loading malformed MDL files.
Possible crash in the instrument editor when releasing a note key that translates to a note above B-9.
